How to Shine in your Next Job Interview
If you’re like most people, heading to a job interview is a surefire way to get your heart pounding and kick your nerves up a notch. Interview anxiety is a very real issue, and you’re not the only candidate in the waiting room who feels minorly overwhelmed.
Each job interview is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about how to interact with others in the workplace. Once you step into that meeting room, the spotlights is on you, providing you with the opportunity to highlight your talents and shine.
Regardless of your nerves, the following tips are sure to help you ace your next job interview:
Know their Story
The moment you confirm the time for your job interview is the moment that you should go into research mode on the company looking to hire you. While you may not be directly asked about your knowledge of the company, you can show that you have taken the initiative to learn about it by expressing the reasons you want to work for them.
Knowing who they are and what they’re about can help you figure out where you fit into the puzzle, so that you can explain how you would be an asset to the company.
PRACTICE WITH A Mock Interview
Interviews are unpredictable. You never know what the tone of the meeting will be: whether it will be a casual conversation or an exhaustive test of knowledge. It’s best to practice with a family member or friend playing the role of your interviewer. This can help you prepare to answer tough questions on the fly, making the actual interview a little less nerve wracking
Regardless of the nature of the job you’re applying for, your interview is the time to present yourself in your best light. Business casual attire is usually a safe bet unless you know that everyone in the company dresses more formally—in which case we advise that you match their dress code.
